Well it isn't quite as catchy as Super Smash Bros., but Sony's rumored me-too brawler seems to have a new title, as PlayStation LifeStyle has discovered that the gaming giant has registered the web address http://playstationallstarsbattleroyale.com/ as well as the shorter url http://playstationallstars.com/. It seems quite likely that this is the SuperBot-developed brawler formerly rumored to be called Title Fight, featuring a variety of popular PlayStation characters a la Nintendo's incredibly successful Super Smash Bros. series.

It is also being speculated that we may get our first look at the game in action as early as this week after a recent tweet by GTTV host Geoff Keighley teasing that a "huge new PS3 exclusive" would unveiled on next Thursday's episode of the show.

"Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale"????

Stupid name. Potential for awesome though.

This could be and hopefully is awesome! SSB is one of the few games I miss after selling my Wii a long time ago. I'd love it even more if they made the play-style similar to Power Stone!

A SSB competitor that is likely from an unproven developer without as many rich 1st party IPs as Nintendo. We'll see how that goes...

And when it fails at least we have Super Smash Bros. Wii U.

You planning on getting a Wii U LMX? I don't think there's any way in hell that I will unless they can wow me at E3 but I still don't see it happening.

Of course I am getting one. I don't see Sony or Microsoft matching a HD Mario, Zelda, Metroid or Smash Bros. anytime soon.

I'll continue my Sony / Nintendo support over to the next gen.

I'll pay attention to Microsoft when they can produce some first party exclusives that interest me.

RE: [PS3] Sony Registers 'PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale' Domain - Red - 04-22-2012 07:30 AM

I hope it's more of a party fighter like Smash and not just a straight 2D fighter

RE: [PS3] Sony Registers 'PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale' Domain - LemonManX - 04-22-2012 08:23 AM

I hope it is a party fighter like Smash, but more like Melee so that it can be played seriously and with skill.

I've had every Nintendo system ever made but I think this will be the first one I skip. I've learned my lesson with the Wii. Sure, I love the games you mentioned but I don't see myself buying a new system for just 4 or 5 games. After playing said 4 or 5 games on my Wii I was completely bored with it and nothing else interested me. Seeing as the Wii U will be using the same controllers with one new crazy looking one I think I'm better off not getting it.

Fair enough, your logic is completely understandable. I have the spare cash so I'm not going to miss out on those games, besides if Nintendo does well enough this gen they may just win me over from Sony. I guess only time will tell.

I think it's a bit ignorant to dismiss the Wii U at this point based on the failures of the Wii, especially when Nintendo has made it pretty clear that they are going in a different direction with the Wii U. They have a lot to prove but there is little question that they have the ability to deliver the best games in the industry. If they can roll them out on a more consistent basis like they did with the N64 and GameCube and they get solid third-party support (see: 3DS) it could be a killer system.

Anyway I find it hard to imagine this game will measure up to SSB but it could still be a lot of fun. How cool would it be if Sony and Nintendo would tolerate each other enough to make a PlayStation vs. Nintendo All-Stars?

I'm not basing it just on the failures of the Wii but the fact that they haven't learned and are still going to use the Wiimote and thus waggle. The Wiimote works with some games but then for others it's totally useless. I'm done with blindly falling Nintendo like I did with the Wii. They'll have to prove themselves, to me at least, before I think of buying their new system. I don't want it to fail but I just don't have the highest of hopes right now.

Back OT: I just noticed that Joystiq posted this way after you so kudos on beating them to the punch. I did think it strange that they basically used the same image as you but no credit given and when I clicked on the link in your source I saw a different image. I'm not sure if you created that from a screenshot or got it somewhere else but it pisses me off that they would do something so blatantly like that.

Well, it'll have complete compatibility with Classic Controls and the Pro controller. I also wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo reveal a GCN / CC hybrid for the games that won't really utilise the tablet controller. The Wii U will be a success, considering the lessons that Nintendo have learned from the 3DS launch I wouldn't be surprised if we see a strong launch line-up.

As for the Joystiq thing, I've seen the article around a few places now so it is hard to say.

They didn't rip that image off its been being used for months.

RE: [PS3] Sony Registers 'PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale' Domain - GlueGun18 - 04-23-2012 05:43 PM

Yeah that image began floating around late last year allegedly ripped from an early development build of the game.

RE: [PS3] Sony Registers 'PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale' Domain - LemonManX - 04-23-2012 05:48 PM

I'm interested to see if anyone in particular is heading the game. Nintendo's Smash succeeded mostly because I think Sakurai really understood Nintendo's beloved franchises and found the perfect style to gel them together. Whether or not someone can do that with Sony's characters would be interesting.

So it's a thing, I guess.

I'm too exhausted to gauge how interested I am for this, but it looks like it might be fun.

I dunno.

RE: [PS3] Sony Registers 'PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale' Domain - Rooster - 04-27-2012 02:26 AM

Looks weak to me. Sounds like Smash but without all the nostalgia.

RE: [PS3] Sony Registers 'PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale' Domain - Cubroso - 04-27-2012 07:11 AM

Fortunately nostalgia was never a good thing.

RE: [PS3] Sony Registers 'PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale' Domain - LemonManX - 04-27-2012 07:25 AM

Nostalgia is fine. Nothing wrong with it. The main thing will be seeing if SuperBot Entertainment can match what Team Sora has done with Smash.
